Anthony Hope - Tyler Smith

This is Tyler’s first production with Two ONE-WAY Tickets to Broadway Productions, and he is very excited to be a part of it.  Tyler has been performing musical theatre for almost 5 years now. His most recent appearance was with Leduc Stageworks and Leduc Drama Society’s production of Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat where he played the role of Joseph.  Another production and group that Tyler had the privilege of being a part of for two years was the Foote Theatre School run by the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton.  Tyler has also been a competitor in both his own local music festival and Alberta’s Provincial Music festival for six years in both musical theatre and classical voice.  Currently Tyler is taking the year off after graduating from high school to pursue his interests in music, Sweeny Todd being one of these ventures.

Sweeney Todd - Martin Galba

He is an actor, singer, dancer, director, choreographer, musical director, props designer and producer who immigrated to Canada when he was only 19 after being the Artistic Director of a successful theatre company, Theatre 7, for three years in his native country Slovakia. Now 28 years old and firmly established in Edmonton, he has already made his opera debut playing the Customs Official in the Edmonton Opera production of La Boheme (2005-2006 Season).

 

Martin’s performing credits include Al in A Chorus Line, Lun Tha in The King And I, Freddy Einsford-Hill in My Fair Lady and Bobby Child in Crazy For You for Festival Players, Lancelot/Ringo in The Magical Mystery Tour…Songs of the Beatles for Celebrations/ Jubilations Dinner Theatre, Giorgio in Passion and Jamie in The Last Five Years for Two ONE-WAY Tickets To Broadway Productions.

 

Martin’s directorial credits include Li’l Abner as well as two Edmonton Fringe Festival hits El Muchacho and Aloha Pinafore for Sherard Musical Theatre, The Fantasticks and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown for Walterdale Playhouse and South Pacific for Festival Players.

 

Martin has also taken up a huge challenge of being a choreographer for a number of shows. Most recently he choreographed two big hits for Strathcona Christian Academy – West Side Story in May 2008 and Beauty and the Beast in May 2009.

 

Martin is a proud member of the Edmonton Opera Chorus having sung in a number of operas with Edmonton Opera since 2003. His upcoming production with the Edmonton Opera is Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance. He will also be releasing his debut album in fall 2009 called Crazy For Gershwin. This album will feature Sally Hunt on piano.

 

He is the Artistic Director and Co-Producer of Two ONE-WAY Tickets To Broadway Productions. He would like to thank the wonderful cast, crew and orchestra for a fabulous show. You all rock!!!

Beggar Woman/Lucy - Monica Roberts

This is Monica’s first appearance with Two ONE-WAY Tickets To Broadway Productions. Other theatre credits include Putting it Together for Roundbarn Productions, Antony and Cleopatra and Crimes of the Heart for Walterdale Theatre, The Last Real Summer, City of Angles, Boys from Syracuse, and Waiting for the Parade for University Players in Windsor Ontario. A graduate of the University of Windsor B.F.A in Music Theatre program, Monica now calls Edmonton home and is Co-Creator of Roundbarn Productions. She sends monkey kisses to the boys in her life that make this all worth while.

Mrs. Lovett - Nicole English

Nicole trained at the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama and graduated in 2003 with a BA Honours Degree in Acting (Musical Theatre). She is also the recipient of the Spotlight Casting Directory’s award for the UK’s Most Promising New Actress (2003). Nicole also had the privilege of participating in workshops hosted by the Stephen Sondheim Society whilst studying at BSSD and during her final year she was directed by Paul Kerryson for her roles as Rapunzel, Jack’s Mother and Cinderella’s Mother in Into The Woods for BSSD.

 

Nicole’s performing credits include Gertrude Lawrence in Noel and Gertie for Image Theatre, Poopay Dayseer in Communicating Doors and Luisa in The Fantasticks for Walterdale Playhouse, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance for Sherard Musical Theatre Association, and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady for Festival Players.

 

Nicole is also no stranger to the Edmonton Fringe Festival, performing as Mabel in Pirates on the Fringe for Sherard Musical Theatre Association. Another Edmonton Fringe highlight includes her role as Fosca in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Passion which she also co produced alongside Martin Galba for Two One Way Tickets to Broadway Productions.

 

She has also been involved in numerous murder mystery shows with Slixer Entertainment.  Nicole has spent the past year living in London, England where she was able to further her acting training with workshops in addition to gathering research for her upcoming role as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street for Two One Way Tickets to Broadway Productions!

 

Nicole is also busy with her own writing and hopes to complete her first book sometime in 2010…

Judge Turpin - Gary Carter

Gary is delighted to be a part of TOWTTB’s Sweeney Todd.  This is an interesting departure from previous roles as Gary gets to play the baddie.  Favourite roles include: Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, George Bailey in A Wonderful Life, Emile de Becque in South Pacific, Dr. Neville Craven in The Secret Garden and Arvide Abernathy in Guys & Dolls.  It has been a pleasure to work with such a talented cast, AD, MD, SM and orchestra.  Thanks all.

Beadle Bamford - Ron Long

Originally from Lloydminster Saskatchewan, Ron completed his Masters of Music in Opera and Music Theatre from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  He has performed such roles as Anthony in Sweeney Todd, Papageno in The Magic Flute, the Father in Hansel and Gretel, King Melchior and the Page in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Mars in Orphee Aux Enfer, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas as well as many comprimario roles for Edmonton Opera.  He has also performed as the principal soloist in various recitals including CBC’s Wednesdays at Winspear concert series which was recorded for CBC Radio 2 and has directed many musicals and plays including numerous Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.  Ron’s passion for theatre has also lead him to the role of Director of the Lloydminster Fringe Festival.  In the summer of 2006, Ron received a substantial grant from the Winspear Fund to study opera in Salzburg Austria.  He currently is a private voice instructor at MacEwan University’s Alberta College Conservatory of Music, where he is also the conductor of the Schola Cantorum Womens Choir and the Adult Musical Theatre Ensemble.  Ron is sought after as a performer, teacher, adjudicator, and workshop presenter throughout Western Canada.

Tobias Ragg - Sean Sonego

Sean Sonego, 16, sings with a sincerity and soulfulness rarely found in such a young person. A humorous and versatile performer to say the least, Sean sings across all musical styles with ease. Sean has been a visible force out in the community using his talents in support of local charities and events.  Sean has performed for numerous high profile non-profit organizations such as Kid's Kottage Earth's Angel's Gala; McDougal House; the YMCA Peace Awards, the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the homeless commission among many others.  Sean has been interviewed on CityTV; CTV, Global and 630 Ched and has performed at the Big Valley Jamboree.

Sean's support of local charities and various philanthropic endeavours has translated into unparalleled competition success. Sean most recently won the Junior Division Global Country Star Search which gave him an opportunity to perform at the Winspear.  He won Future's Fest's Pop Category this year; he has been a scholarship recipient with the Kiwanis for the last few years and was a semi-finalist in the David Foster Star Search.  Sean was flown down to Los Angeles to perform before Debbie Allen and Chaka Chan as a finalist in the international Let's Talk About Love Singing Contest.

Most recently, Sean has been writing his own material and working with internationally renowned Bobby Cameron as he continues to pursue his dream of a career in the music industry.

Pirelli - Dan Rowley

Dan Rowley started singing in choirs at age 7. When Mr Rowley was 10 he played the lead Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors, an opera by Menotti. He went on to play Nanki Poo in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Mikado and has been singing ever since. Mr.Rowley is a member of the Edmonton Opera Chorus. In 2007 he played the character of Ludwig in a Stephen Sondheim production of Passion at the Fringe, by Two ONE-WAY Tickets To Broadway Productions. Last August he understudied the lead Luigi in a Mercury Opera production of Il Tabarro on the Edmonton Queen.  Mr.Rowley is also a member of a group called Tenor Power, who perform at different events and functions around the city along with being hired himself to Sing solo events of different kinds as well. Mr Rowley studies Opera Vocal Training at Grant MacEwan Alberta College Conservatory of Music with Mr Larry Benson . 

Mr. Rowley is honoured and excited to play the role of Pirelli giving the role an opera twist in this production of the Broadway musical Sweeney Todd. A wonderful cast, crew and orchestra… bravo !!

Jonas Fogg/Ensemble - Matthew Schuurman

This is Matt's first production with Two ONE-WAY Tickets to Broadway Productions.  Matt is a regular performer with Rapid Fire Theatre, and can be seen in weekly shows of Theatresports and Chimprov.  Aside from performances with RFT, recent stage credits include 00:00 AM for Fringe 2009, Night Spell for Nextfest 2008, The Ready-Made Playground of Marcel Duchamp for Fringe 2008, and B, or Unless You Steal Her Pen! for Fringe 2007.  In addition to being an actor, Matt is also an animator; his most recent credit - creating the animations for "Su-Kat" for Azimuth Theatre.

Bradley is thrilled to be performing with such a gifted cast!  His recent performances have been in Mark at the 2009 Edmonton Fringe, ELOPE's A Grand Night for Singing and Baby, Festival Players' Crazy For You and South Pacific, Bobby Gould In Hell at the 2008 Edmonton Fringe, and Walterdale Playhouse's The Trial of Salome.

Ensemble - Amanda Blair

Amanda is very excited to be in Sweeney Todd and to work with Kristen Findlay once again. Amanda was in Crimes of The Heart, directed by Kristen M. Finlay last year and recently had her play Mr. Twiddles read at the Walterdale Footlights Festival.  Amanda looks forward to many more shows with wonderful people like the ones in this show. Enjoy!

Ensemble - Stephen Delano

Stephen is delighted to be appearing with this wonderful cast in Sweeney Todd.  Stephen has a diploma in Theatre Arts from MacEwan University, and a BFA/B.Ed from the University of Lethbridge.  He has performed with Teatro La Quindicina, Leave it to Jane Theatre, the University of Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, and Canadiana Productions.  Stephen was the Summer Program Director at the Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod for six years.  He currently teaches in the Performing Arts Department at Strathcona High School.

Ensemble - Cindy Gaffney

After her return from Montreal, where she was studying to become a Drama therapist, Cindy Gaffney found time to return to the stage (her first love).  Since then she has been a part of productions such as: The Pirates of Penzance, Pirates on the Fringe, HMS Pinafore, El Muchacho, The Sound of Music and The Mikado She is very excited to be a part of this Two ONE-WAY Tickets to Broadway Production of Sweeney Todd.

Ensemble - Scott Garland

Scott Garland hails from Cold Lake, has a diploma in Visual Performing Arts from Keyano College and is currently completing his Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of Alberta. You may have seen him recently as The Talking Tree in Joel Bazin's False Start: Beginning of a Fool, he also wrote Half A League which played as part of Defiance Theatre's previous season. Scott has enjoyed his experience with the crazed cast and crew of Sweeney Todd and was pleased to be able to work with Two One Way Tickets to Broadway Productions. He would like to thank you very much for your continued support of the arts and hopes that Sondheim's work has not put you off of pies or shaving. Be assured most pies are delicious, some are nutritious and rarely are they made of people ... Enjoy the show!

Ensemble - Lauren Kneteman

Lauren is thrilled to be involved in her first production with Two One-Way Tickets To Broadway Productions, as well as her first production outside of high school. She is currently in grade 12 at Strathcona High School and has been heavily involved with the fine arts program, appearing in One-Act play festivals, Nextfest, Footloose, Beauty And The Beast, and will travel with the Scona Theatre Company next summer to perform in the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Alongside her love of theatre, she has been dancing for thirteen years. She would like to thank all of the wonderful people involved in Sweeney Todd for a fantastic experience. She hopes you have all brought your appetites, and are ready to sink your teeth into an incredible show!

Dominique is very excited to be part of this Sweeney Todd production. She has appeared in three plays with Scona Theatre Co. and is excited to continue her journey in musical theatre. She is currently attending the University of Alberta, and hopes to pursue a minor in music. No matter what is in store for her in the future, she hopes to always continue singing. Enjoy the Show!

Ensemble - Veronica Masik

Though new to Two ONE-WAY Tickets to Broadway Productions, Veronica is not new to theatre. She has been with St. Albert Children’s Theatre for the past 8 years, performing in 10 main stage productions - including Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Narnia the Musical, Just So, and Seussical. Veronica still sings at St. Albert events with a small group of SACT alumni, most recently seen at the Alberta Arts Day Gala.  Additional credits include Eulalie Shinn in The Music ManThe Three B’s: The Wailing in the Wings at the 2006 Edmonton Fringe, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown at the Walterdale Playhouse. Outside of rehearsal, Veronica can be found studying for her BSc, cheerleading at the U of A, or coaching cheer in St. Albert.

Ensemble - Michelle Robinson

Michelle Helen Robinson is a singer/songwriter with a background in theatre arts. Her debut child acting role in the award winning film called Rain by Flashfire Productions in 2000, which helped to launch her interest in performing arts at an early age. Michelle continued performing in musicals and plays including A Christmas Carol the Musical, Guys and Dolls, Once on this Island, Ledge, and King Arthur's Socks. She has further studied musical theatre at local theatre schools. Michelle also has a keen interest for playing music and has been involved with jazz and concert choirs as well as indie bands. She is currently recording her debut album showcasing her piano and vocal skills.

Ensemble - Doran Werner

Doran is a new graduate of MacEwan’s musical theatre program, where he appeared in Stewart Lemoine’s original play The Addlepated Nixie, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Where’s Charlie. He also played in this years Fringe Festival in an original musical Saint Joan and Me. Doran is very excited to be a part of this production of Sweeney Todd and being able to meet and work with all these wonderful people involved. Doran’s future projects include the Walterdale Theatre’s production of Beautiful Thing in February, as well as an extended production of Saint Joan and Me.
